Although The Co-Living Company formed only recently, our team has a long history and many years of experience working with multiple occupancy properties. Having developed a successful business in the competitive London HMO sector, we have brought the skills and insights gained there to South African shores with a complete investment property service tailored to suit the local market. In addition to tenanting and managing rental properties on a day-to-day basis we work closely with investors to source and enhance properties with a view to optimising returns.
Our Services
Investment
We provide guidance on all aspects of the acquisition and development of properties for multiple occupancy. We work with investors every step of the way, from identifying suitable properties through to advising on improvements and assisting with managing refurbishments.
Our goal is to enhance returns through three key investment principles:

Management
We aim to make life easy for both owners and tenants by providing excellent support and quick and efficient resolutions to any property issues that may arise.
Our management services include:
- Rent collection
- Facilitating repairs and maintenance
- Conducting regular property maintenance inspections
- Managing monthly accounts and services
- Providing monthly landlord rental reports
- Tenant liaison
Lettings
We take care of all the administration involved in arranging new lettings and draw on a network of resources to find the most suitable tenants and ensure rooms are filled as quickly as possible.
Our lettings services include:
- Advertising rooms
- Conducting viewings
- New tenant administration including credit checks, signing of leases, collection of deposits and check-in inspections & reports
- Exiting tenant administration including check-out inspections and deposit refunds
About us
The Co-Living Company was established in early 2021 when co-founder Danie van den Heever found himself on an extended stay in Stellenbosch, unable to return to his London home and business due to the worldwide shutdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Always on the lookout for new opportunities, he immediately recognised the potential to make a mark in the Stellenbosch property market with the successful property investment, lettings and management model he and co-founder Callie Engelbrecht had developed as directors of Ultimate Real Estate in London.
When fortune stepped in with the perfect ‘starter property’ followed shortly by a chance meeting in a vineyard with former Ultimate Real Estate employee Frances Penzhorn, now also living in Stellenbosch and enticed by the proposed new venture, the pieces fell into place for the genesis of The Co-Living Company.
After finding our feet developing, letting and managing our first communal living property in La Colline, Stellenbosch our portfolio very quickly grew to include both owned and managed properties.
Our team grew alongside our portfolio and recently welcomed Idané Burger. Together we continue to work hard to provide exceptional service to our landlords, investors and tenants alike.
